Embedding privacy at the data level

All big data analytics today requires working with information that could potentially be used to identify customers, so anonymization is a must. But how do you derive insight at scale and at speed, while ensuring behavioral data can’t be linked back to individual customers?

Embedding privacy at the data level is the answer. This requires multiple steps, including the extraction of sensitive details before data can be used and tokenization to ensure individuals can’t be identified.

Anonymity assured

Tokenization removes personal identifiers from your data. This isn’t just about securing information in the event of data breaches, but assuring your team that privacy is controlled from the start.

We also ensure all personal and protected data – such as sexuality and ethnicity – is extracted before any analytics work is carried out.

Our proprietary technology uses AI, rather than a static, rules-based approach, to identify sensitive data that must be removed. This is fully customizable, to help you build a more nuanced and inclusive view of the customer.

Respecting customers’ rights

Behavioral data, such as the websites a person visits, can provide deep insights into their tastes and preferences. But it needs to be used in the right way, to avoid customers feeling naturally uncomfortable about businesses monitoring their activities.

Our solution is to transform data into a format unreadable by humans that can’t be linked to individuals. We also inject noise into the data by substituting URLs with random information, and then aggregate data into clusters of similar sites. The link to raw URLs is broken and insights can be gained from the clusters.

This allows you to work with a ‘digital twin’ that has no connection to the real customer, enabling you to maintain the highest standards of data privacy.

Intent HQ data controls add a layer of governance that protects the consumer and the organization from the impact of data misuse.

Marketing teams must create personalized and empathetic campaigns while always adhering to corporate and regulatory governance. Intent HQ Data Controls allow your organization to differentiate data against customer profiles. 

This ensures access to the widest datasets in Insights Explorer, while applying data policy restrictions when segmenting and targeting audiences for different campaigns. 

Maintaining compliance

Data Controls help avoid any breaches of data policy and regulations, giving privacy officers and data engineers confidence in the usability of the data. 

This additional layer of consumer privacy allows clients to govern how employees can use data within the Insights Explorer visualization tool, and when data is exported for activation purposes by other marketing technologies.

The Intent HQ Data Controls framework consists of two elements: Data Policies and Data Labels.

Data policies

Data Policies are documented in natural language, describing their purpose and any restrictions. They are visible at every stage of the workflow, so it’s easy to know what data users can and can’t include in their applications.

Data labels

Data Labels apply policies at a granular data field level. We keep track of exactly how data moves through the platform using metadata, easily identifying who is using which data elements in which pipelines. These are monitored to ensure usage is in line with the privacy guidance and risk classifications.
